Come to the Zoo and learn about clans and why animals are so important to them. Clans, the foundation of many Native American families, villages and tribes, are named after animals like the hawk, snipe, wolf, beaver, turtle, eel, deer, heron and bear. People of the Seneca Nation of the Iroquois (or Haudenosaunee) organize themselves according to the model of the animal world. In addition to docent-run stations, representatives from Ganondagan will be on Zoo grounds with an impressive display of Seneca Nation artifacts to share with visitors.
