Re: “Program is shaping chefs and raising restaurateurs

This is an interesting story about a promising program.

But the restaurant is called "Salena's," not "Salina's" or "Salinas."

And the typo on the front page of the print edition is embarrassing: it's restaurateur, not restauranteur.

Basic fact-checking is important.

Re: “Many city teachers not up to par, says new report

I suggest that *City* do intensive interviews with ten city teachers - give them anonymity so they can speak freely - about how they think city schools could be improved.

I bet you'd get more solid, realistic assessments from those who are doing the impossible job of engaging and educating children who don't show up for class or do schoolwork, who don't have parents who take care of their basic needs, and who worship a media culture that scorns education as "acting white."

Re: “Five local guitar makers discuss their craft

Great article about a little-known aspect of Rochester's music scene. City rocks!

Re: “Student behavior: Vargas dares to go there

Vargas says "poor student behavior is an indication that students’ needs are not being met. "

Why aren't students accountable for their own behavior? What entitles them to blame others for neglecting their "needs," when they're disruptive to the education of others? In the rest of the world, school is a PRIVILEGE. These students treat school with contempt and disrespect, and then we have to listen to administrators stand around making excuses for them.

As long as the district colludes with the students and parents who want to blame their own destructive behavior on someone or something else, nothing will change.
