METAL | Primalfrost

Front man Dean Paul Arnold started Primalfrost as a one-man project, combining elements of folk metal, black metal, melodic death metal and other similar genres into something of "epic proportions." After releasing the 2013 album "Prosperous Visions," and adding three members to the band for live shows, those epic proportions were reached. The critically well-regarded release has powerful instrumentals to satisfy any metalhead, and speedy guitar licks and double bass aplenty. They didn't have CD players in Middle Earth, but if they did the music of choice during The Battle of the Five Armies would have been Primalfrost, hands down.

Primalfrost plays with Claim the Throne, Throne of Wilderness, and Tyranitar on Sunday, January 18, at the Bug Jar, 219 Monroe Avenue. 9 p.m. $8-$10. Bugjar.com; Primalfrost.bandcamp.com.
