Clutching power chords in hand, Wren Williams and The Sons of Luther aren't afraid to tap into pop music's heavier side. This stuff is irresistibly catchy as it borrows from past decades and mashes them up into a sound that says "listen now" rather than "remember when?" There's a tight drive from the drums as the guitars trade off barroom licks with some delightfully trippy stuff. Sounds big; sounds uncomplicated; sounds cool. You'll see. Proceeds from the show are going to JT Fitzgerald of Dadstache Records — he's fighting the good fight with cancer.
Wren Williams and The Sons of Luther play with Tart Vandelay, RoarShark, and Careo on Saturday, March 25, at Bug Jar, 219 Monroe Avenue. 8 p.m. $5. bugjar.com; facebook.com/wrenwilliams.
