[UPDATE 1:02 p.m.] Democratic Leader Carrie Andrews says that she can’t yet speak for her caucus as to whether it’ll support the bond; the members are meeting Saturday and will discuss the issue then. But she says she’s pleased to see site neutral language in the legislation and that she’ll support it.
The language doesn’t lock the county into any specific location for the Damon campus, Andrews says. It provides room to explore unanswered questions about both the Sibley building and the Kodak site, she says.
ORIGINAL STORY: Mayor Tom Richards says the County Legislature should pass its annual borrowing package which, this year, will include funding for Monroe Community College's downtown campus.
Today, Richards is sending a letter to Legislature President Jeff Adair indicating his support. A revised draft of the bond resolution is site neutral and is acceptable, Richards wrote.
"It preserves a broad range of options that could serve the community well," Richards wrote.
In the letter, Richards maintains his position that the Sibley building is the best site for MCC's Damon City Campus. The MCC Board of Trustees voted to buy and renovate buildings at Kodak's State Street site and to move the campus there.
