ROCK | Bear Hands

When Bear Hands released its debut full-length, 'Burning Bush Supper Club," in 2010, with a lot of indie-world buzz, the band received comparisons to MGMT — but come on, that's too easy. Anyone who looked past the Wesleyan connection, would see Bear Hands as much more. The New York City-based band infuses a lot of humor and quirkiness into its music. From the lyrics — referencing Harmony Korine's obscure "Julien Donkey-Boy" — to the interesting manic-to-precision song constructions, and the lead singer's nasally rapid-fire bark, Bear Hands is just unusual, in a good way. The band released its sophomore album, "Distraction," back in February.

Bear Hands will play with Chappo, The Demos, Skirts, and Machine Gun English, on Tuesday, September 9, at Montage Music Hall, 50 Chestnut Street. 6:30 p.m. $9.41 advance; $15 day of show. Themontagemusichall.com; Bearhandsband.com.
