Urban Action 4/19

This week's calls to action include the following events and activities. (All are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.)

Exposing the drone war

WXXI will present "National Bird," a documentary film Sonia Kennebeck, on Monday, April 24. The film tells the story of three veterans who become whistleblowers and speak out about the horrors of the US drone war in Afghanistan. The film will be shown at the Little Theatre, 240 East Avenue, at 7 p.m.

Check out electric cars

The Town of Penfield will host an electric car show on Saturday, April 22. Penfield has been hosting shows after installing the first publicly available charging station in Monroe County five years ago. (The town now has three charging stations.) Saturday's show is expected to include vehicles from GM, Nissan, Ford, Tesla, Volkswagen, and BMW. Information will be available about federal and state tax rebate programs for plug-in vehicles. The event will be at the Penfield Community Center, 1985 Baird Road, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Remembering the Holocaust

The Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester and the Louis Wolk Jewish Community Center will host the launch of a historic archive of Rochester Holocaust survivors on Sunday, April 23. Rebecca Erbelding, a Rochester native and an archivist and curator at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, will introduce the program. The event will be held at the JCC, 1200 Elmwood Avenue, at 4 p.m.

Resisting war spending

Genesee Valley Citizens for Peace will hold a tax-day rally outside Rep. Chris Collins' office on Wednesday, April 19. The rally protests President Trump's budget proposal to increase military spending by $54 billion, as well as how US taxes are being spent. The event will be held at 128 Main Street, at 4 p.m.
