This week's calls to action include the following events and activities. (All are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.)

Talking about the turbulent 1970's

Faculty members of the College at Brockport will hold a panel discussion concerning gender, careers, and a sense of purpose in the 1970's following the performance of "Loose Ends" on Saturday, April 25. Michael Weller's play describes a couple who experience the turbulent social and cultural changes of the '70's. The panel, which will include Barbara LeSavoy, director of women's studies, and Carter Soles, assistant professor of English, will discuss those changes and their impact on today's society. The play starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets may be purchased by phone, 395-2787. They are: $16 for general admission; $11 for seniors; and $8.50 for students. Performances will be held on April 24, 25, 30, and May 1, and 2.

Raising the Native American voice

RIT will present "Finding My Path," a talk by Teyotsihstokwáthe Dakota Brant of the Mohawk Turtle clan at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, in room 2650. Born and raised in the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory and a citizen of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Brant has traveled extensively engaging youth, nonprofits, government, and community leaders as a voice on issues impacting indigenous people.

Panel to discuss the Great Migration

Friends and Foundation of the Rochester Public Library and the YWCA of Rochester and Monroe County will present a panel of speakers who will talk about the Great Migration north at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 26. Panelists include Frederick Jefferson, professor emeritus of the University of Rochester's Warner School of Education; Ben Douglas, former City Council member; Loretta Scott, current president of City Council; and David Anderson, founder of the Blackstorytelling League of Rochester. The event will be held at Central Library, 115 South Avenue.

ACA five years later

The League of Women Voters will present a panel discussion on the Affordable Care Act, five years after its enactment. It's at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 27, at First Unitarian Church of Rochester, 220 South Winton Road. Panelists will examine how the ACA is functioning. Sarah Liebschutz, professor emerita at SUNY Brockport, will moderate. Preregistration requested: 262-3730.
