WEEK AHEAD: Sale of Port of Rochester land; meeting on UR-East deal

Posted By on Mon, Dec 15, 2014 at 10:13 AM

City Council is scheduled to vote on legislation to sell the first chunk of land to Edgewater Resources for redevelopment of the Port of Rochester. The project has faced opposition throughout, with some Charlotte residents saying that Edgewater's plans are too dramatic for the port area.

Council will consider the sale of 1.26 acres of the northern portion of 4752 Lake Avenue to Edgewater for $176,239. The first phase of the project includes a 52-room boutique hotel, 18 condominiums, spa, and commercial space.

Council will also consider granting Edgewater a five-year purchase option for approximately 1.4 acres of the southern portion of 4752 Lake Avenue. The sale of the property would have to be approved by City Council.

A marina is also under construction at the Port of Rochester, although the project needs a new developer. The city and the marina's original developer mutually agreed, the city said, to find a new developer for the rest of the marina project.

Tuesday's Council meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in Council chambers at City Hall, 30 Church Street. A public comment period precedes the Council meeting. That starts at 6:30 p.m. BY CHRISTINE CARRIE FIEN

Rochester schools Superintendent Bolgen Vargas will hold his monthly coffee and conversation meeting from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the district’s central office, 131 West Broad Street. And the Rochester school board will hold a special meeting at East High School tomorrow night, too. The board will review the recently submitted proposal from the University of Rochester to become East’s Educational Partnership Organization next year. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at 1801 East Main Street. BY TIM LOUIS MACALUSO
