WEEK AHEAD: For the Week of April 27, 2015

The Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley will hold a rally today, Monday, April 27, in support of marriage equality to coincide with the US Supreme Court’s hearing on the subject.

The rally is one of many that have been coordinated around the country and will be held in front of the Kenneth Keating Federal Building, 100 State Street, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.


The Rochester school board will hold a second public hearing on the $800 million school budget that Superintendent Bolgen Vargas has proposed for the 2015-2016 school year.

The League of Women Voters will present a panel discussion on the Affordable Care Act, five years after its enactment. It's at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 27, at First Unitarian Church of Rochester, 220 South Winton Road. Panelists will examine how the ACA is functioning. Sarah Liebschutz, professor emerita at SUNY Brockport, will moderate.

Bryan Hetherington, Empire Justice Center, will analyze King v. Burwell, a pending Supreme Court case about whether subsidies in the ACA can be provided to low- and middle-income enrollees in states with federally operated insurance marketplaces.

The 90-minute forum will provide time for questions and answers about the implementation of the ACA.
