The Douglass lectures provide an ongoing intellectual conversation-within the Church among black theologians, pastors, lay leaders and laity-on the nature and ,mission for the Church in an ever changing environment.

The goal is self –definition. Believers that are born in this tradition have an obligation to define the nature of the beliefs and practices they embrace.
