301 Canterbury Road

Elegance on Canterbury

With an appearance that is full of style and grace, the sophisticated house at 301 Canterbury Road helps define the look and feel of a classy neighborhood. Stout brick and gleaming stucco on the outside, detailed with large windows and overhanging eaves, give this structure a panache that is hard to equal. 301 Canterbury lives up to the looks, inside and out.

The main entrance (on the right side of the house) opens into an airy central foyer entry hall. The front of the house is dedicated to the formal living and dining areas. A stunning wood-burning marble fireplace and hand-crafted cherry mantel command attention in the living room. These features are framed by two stylish leaded-glass windows and work well with the hardwood floors. Double French doors lead to an understated front porch with arched openings and a tiled floor. Gumwood pocket doors open up to reveal a very intimate dining room. Dark walls and strategic track-lighting transform this room into an ideal space for dinner parties with friends and family or a romantic dinner for two.

Custom cabinetry and modern appliances make the eat-in kitchen a great work area for meal preparation. A large window on the rear wall, along with colorful stained glass over the sink (another beautiful stained-glass treatment is located on the landing of the main staircase), casts plenty of light onto the tiled floor. In addition to the main living areas, a smaller den/study and an enclosed porch offer even more useable space on the first floor.

The master suite, running the entire width of the house on the second floor, has a seemingly endless row of large windows letting in the light. There is plenty of space for a large bed and furniture, coupled with a walk-in dressing area with built-in cabinets and drawers, as well as a private master bath, all of which create an area of comfort and luxury that is not often found in a private home. The second bedroom is connected to another enclosed porch, while the third bedroom includes a large window facing the rear of the house. Both boast hardwood floors and plenty of closet space. A full tiled bath at the end of the spacious hallway completes the second floor. This home has the added asset of a fully furnished third floor. Plush wall-to-wall carpeting covers the stairway and all the living spaces, which include both a large main area and small private reading room. Add in a fully equipped bathroom, and this former attic space is practically a separate apartment of its own.

The house at 301 Canterbury Road is a well-preserved, architecturally ornate building that is near the amenities and entertainment of both Avenues (Park and Monroe). Built in 1921, it has 2370 sq. ft. of available space. It is priced at $349,900 with taxes of $6,740. There is a detached garage and parking area. Contact Eileen M. McNamara of Hunt Real Estate ERA-Columbus Division at 244-8200 for more information.
