Correct me if I'm wrong, but, Lovely is not the mayor YET! That being said, she can't make any appointments in the current police department. She can't demand that anybody in the RPD take a more public role. Isn't Sheppard still the police chief? It's his job to make those type of decisions. He has to carry out his duties until the end of the year. According to you, Mayor Richards is still doing his mayoral duties (i.e. implementing programs and cutting ribbons). Why can't Sheppard continue to do his job until the end of the year?

The Mayor stated that she hired them temporarily until she can post the position. That's done all the time in the Government. So let's not make it like she's doing something different from other mayors. By the way, mayors in other cities have body guards. If she didn't have body guards and something happened to her, the first thing people would say is, "She should have had protection". To some of you she can win no matter what she does. And yes, she can create positions! All mayors have that latitude. Remember Duffy created that Fire Department position for Molly. Remember????
