As a biased regular at Shmeg's, I think that you are spot-on in regards to the care and attention to detail that goes into everything that is 'Shef-ed' up there.
It is interesting that as I read you review, that many of the things that you point at as being negatives are actually positives for people the enjoy good food and don't write reviews about it for a free newspaper.
Impressive portions, check.
Incredibly hearty Mac & Cheese Balls, check.
Uniquely satisfying breakfast sausage that everyone should try, check.
Creative menu, check.
We all agree that it's the best Fish Fry in Rochester, check.

Absolutely the best traditional Chinese restaurant in Rochester. If you enjoy Sichuan, and the amazing Spicy Boiled Fish, it's not on the menu, but they do make it. Just as for the Spicy Beef with Napa with fish instead.
Despite the fact that everything is made to order, it is impressive on how quickly they turn things around.
