George Payne - The racial demographic of the City of Rochester is as follows:
42% African-American
38% White (non-Hispanic)
Yet the RCSD board is:
57% African-American
29% White (non-Hispanic)
Surely, if the racial make up of the St. John Fisher board is one of the reasons why that institutions students are vandalizing statues as you seem to believe, then no doubt the disconnection between racial populations and representation on the RCSD board is equally likely to result in anti-social behavior on the part of Rochesters high school students.

Let me get this straight. By the time a kid becomes 18 they have spent 18 years being raised by their parents, and they have spent 13 years @ 9 mo. per year attending primary and secondary schools. But magically, when they begin attending a college , for 3/4 of each year for 4 years, Mr. Payne wants to argue that the college inherits total and final responsibility for correcting any mistakes in the student's social outlook caused by their previous upbringing? The correct response to that claim begins with a "b", but to use it would doubtless be a TOS violation. So I'll merely say that it's baloney.

While you're pondering that huge financial loss occasioned by taxpayers having to subsidize public TV, and how relieving them of that burden will ease their financial struggles, perhaps you can explain why I, or anyone without children, should have to bear the far greater cost of subsidizing your children's primary and secondary school education (for the sake of argument we'll assume you have children) by paying school taxes. I'll be happy to pay your share of supporting WXXI if you pay the property taxes on my home.

Hopefully Ms. Towler will retire VERY soon and professionals will take over. However, given the censorship exhibited by this paper over the years, the line about welcoming comments is the biggest piece of Fake News I'v e seen locally.

Funny, but I don't recall Mary Anne Towler complaining like this when Rochester and Monroe County used our tax dollars to give massive PILOT breaks to the Wilmots for the Sibley Building (which they then proceeded to never pay, stiffing us for about $20,000,000), or to Scott Congel to pretend to redo Irondequoit Mall. Also City's support for the financial black hole called the Fast Ferry is well-known. Let's not forget that mega-millions Louise Slaughter got Congress to allocate to fund light-rail tests between Rochester and Buffalo. And I have yet to see this paper conduct an in-depth evaluation of whether the millions of state tax dollars allocated to "redevelop the river" are being intelligently spent by the Warren administration. Guess tax dollars spent locally are an Investment in the Future, whereas tax dollars spent elsewhere in the state are just plan old pork barrel spending.

In a city that's touted such asinine projects as the Toronto ferry and RenSquare, one would have thought that it would be impossible to ever find a civic "improvement" project that was an even bigger waste of tax dollars, or one that, unlike those other blue sky nightmares, has the potential to cost lives. But with the Broad Street aqueduct project a new low had been achieved.
Of course the plan to turn the Broad Street aqueduct into a glorified frog pond has been proposed before. Mayor Duffy did so years ago before he resigned to become Cuomo's gofer. But, like Frankenstein's monster, this idea just won't die. Nor will it's supporters ever explain how in hell they think they can eliminate downtown's busiest street level bridge without creating a traffic nightmare and with the attendant danger to public safety.

Sure thing George. You complain that the racial makeup of Fisher's board must be changed because. in your opinion, it is responsible for the college not imparting the proper social attitudes to its students. But let someone point out that the same claim could be made for the racial makeup of the RCSD board and you run away crying "false equivalency". The equivalency is exact. it's simply that you fear that bringing in the RCSD will distract from your jihad against Fisher. But I did find your attempt to rewrite your past blaming of Fisher for the actions of the two vandals to be most amusing. George Orwell would be proud.
