Author Marjory Allen Perez will visit West Bloomfield Historical Society on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 7 pm, to discuss her books on regional African American history. Final Stop, Freedom: the Underground Experience in Wayne County, New York, brings the travelers on the Underground Railroad to life and shows how freed and escaped slaves re-established their lives in upstate New York. Freedom, A Shared Sacrifice: New York’s African American Civil War Soldiers, shares personal stories and images of area residents who fought in the black units of the Civil War and the families they left behind. These soldiers served in regiments such as the well known 54th, featured in the movie “Glory.” The program includes a book signing.
