AFROBEAT | Continental Drift

In a multilayered ocean of sound, Continental Drift delivers a funky wave of Latin jazz, psychedelia, soul fusion, Afrobeat, and electronica. Crashing in from Austin, Texas, the band has toured extensively since forming in 2014, celebrating a self-titled, debut EP in 2015 and a full-length album in 2017. Continental Drift's music is mostly instrumental, peppered with atmospheric vocal echoes and a complex spectrum of percussive timbres. Provocative horn lines, ripping keyboard solos, and electrifying guitar riffs all punctuate the underlying drumbeats.

Continental Drift will perform along with Kids in the Basement and Treasure Plate on Friday, January 18, 9 p.m. at Bug Jar, 219 Monroe Avenue. $7. Ages 21 and over. 454-2966. bugjar.com; continentaldriftmusic.com.
