ALBUM REVIEW: "Every One of You"

Joe Smith & The Going Concern

"Every One of You"

Murray Black Records

The energy is there. The guitar is there with its relentless strum attack. The attitude is there, and so is the band's list of influences: Ramones, Replacements, Bad Religion.  Joe Smith & The Going Concern is my kind of band. Straight outta Atlanta with a nod to the CBGB sound, it's almost perfect ... except Smith can't sing on key to save his life. He's got the balls and attitude, but sings flat throughout all five tracks on "Every One of You." I dunno, maybe the band is sharp. The overall sloppiness is cool and I'm sure this band is fun live, but this record, though, just doesn't cut it.
