Album review: 'Never Fit In'

Diluted

"Never Fit In"

Self-released

dilutedband.bandcamp.com

The cover artwork by drummer Dusty West for Diluted's debut EP, "Never Fit In," is in many ways a perfect package for the tunes. Colorful and in conflict, the illustrated montage of chaos pulls no punches and leaves room for the ensuing aggression.

Diluted draws from several metal subgenres, including thrash and hardcore, along with grunge and rap to create an amalgam of its own making. The best songs on this five-track EP — like "Hipster Helmets and Harpsichords" and "Sledge Hovercraft" — utilize high levels of energy that'll make you want to mosh as if a weasel was shoved down your pants. "Never Fit In" is a decent first attempt at going over the top.
