AMERICANA | Jim Avett

I guess you could say the tree doesn't stand too far from where the apple falls. The Avett Brothers' father, Jim, has retired from his career as a welder to hit the road, just like his very popular boys. Perhaps the welding dream didn't pan out for him. His music is rooted in the same folk Americana that his boys have helped to resurrect, defined by simple acoustic beauty and delicate harmonies. Perhaps we should thank him as well.

Jim Avett plays Thursday, May 16, 7 p.m. at Abilene Bar & Lounge, 153 Liberty Pole Way. $7-$10. abilenebarandlounge.com.
