ART | 'The Visionary Works of Cathal Brendan O'Toole'

AXOM Gallery's latest exhibition, "The Visionary works of Cathal Brendan O'Toole," honors the work of the late Dublin, Ireland-born artist. O'Toole traveled around the world learning drawing, printmaking, and painting starting in the 1920s before landing in Rochester, where he retired as an art director in television in 1971. His work has been exhibited extensively, including at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the National Academy of Design, The Art institute of Chicago, and the Corcoran Gallery in DC. The AXOM exhibit presents a wide range from the volume of his work, with a particular emphasis on his expressionist and abstract expressionist paintings. The exhibit also functions as an estate sale in support of O'Toole's widow, Delores, who is in nursing home care here in Rochester.

"The Visionary works of Cathal Brendan O'Toole" continues at AXOM Gallery & Exhibition Space, 176 Anderson Avenue, through September 1. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, noon to 6 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and by appointment. Free admission. 232-6030 x3; axomgallery.com.
