click to enlarge Three days. Dozens of short films. The Rochester International Film Festival is a celebration of movie-making brevity. This annual, global showcase of films focuses on short-runtime releases, with the typical movie lasting about 10 minutes. That opens the door for an eclectic mix of films packed into single screenings, or “sessions.” Among the festival’s most recent offerings were “The Bag,” a tale of an Iranian transgender woman’s coming out in an oppressive society, “Unforgotten,” a short documentary on Japanese sexual war crimes in Korea during World War II, and “The Kaleidoscope Guy at the Market,” a 20-minute documentary about a Seattle man who makes glass kaleidoscopes.
