BLUES/AMERICANA | Jake La Botz

Jake La Botz mixes Piedmont blues with doses of Chicago shuffle-and-shake. With his classic Hollywood profile and gritty voice, La Botz is both heartbreaking and ominous. Lonesome never sounded so satisfying. And it's all been brought into keen focus by the magic studio fingertips of producer Jimmy Sutton (bassist for JD McPherson) with the release of "Sunnyside" on Sutton's Hi-Style Records label. An interesting side note, while he drives folks wild from the stage with a murderous fingerstyle and charm, La Botz has kept an even keel for the last 16 years through the practice of meditation within the Tibetan tradition of Chögyam Trungpa. How cool is this show gonna be?

Jake La Botz performs Thursday, June 8, at the Record Archive, 33 1/3 Rockwood Street. 6 p.m. recordarchive.com; jakelabotz.com.
