CLASSICAL | Canandaigua Lake Music Festival

Pianist Jon Nakamatsu will perform with the RPO and the Society for Chamber Music next season. But the Canandaigua Lake Music Festival has him in the area first, for its opening weekend of a concert series running through July 24. On Friday, July 15, Nakamatsu gets the festival off to a thoughtful start by playing several Schubert Impromptus, followed by Pegasus Early Music's Deb Fox and Laura Heimes performing John Dowland lute songs. This should be an evening of exquisitely lyrical melancholy. On Sunday, July 17, Nakamatsu joins violinist Kevin Kumar and cellist Amy Sue Barston for Tchaikovsky's Piano Trio in A Minor; that epic chamber work will be preceded by contemporary choral music of Ola Gjeilo, Dan Forrest, and Eric Whitacre, performed by the Finger Lakes Camerata under Dennis Maxfield.

The Canandaigua Lake Music Festival's opening weekend takes place Friday, July 15, and Sunday, July 17, at Finger Lakes Community College (3325 Marvin Sands Drive, Canandaigua). 7:30 p.m.; pre-concert talks at 7:15. $28. canandaigualakemusic.org.
