Autumn is a-comin' in, and that means a new season for Pegasus Early Music. Rochester's grand early music series begins this Sunday with a so-called "French Café" — no berets required, but you will have the chance to hear French songs and dances from the 12th to the 16th centuries, originally created by troubadours, kings, and even some composers. You'll also hear historical instruments, including the rebec, the bray harp, and the bagpipe — all early versions of their modern equivalents (the rebec being an early violin) — performed by Dongmyung Ahn, Christa Patton, and Deborah Fox. Best of all, you'll hear a Pegasus favorite, countertenor José Lemos, who has been praised for his "big, colorful, sexy tone" (remember, this is French music you'll be hearing).
Pegasus Early Music will present "French Café" on Sunday, September 27, at Downtown United Presbyterian Church, 121 North Fitzhugh Street. 4 p.m. $10-$25. 703-3990; pegasusearlymusic.org.
