CLASSICAL | Jupiter Quartet

The Jupiter Quartet — an intimate yet powerful award-winning group — will open the Eastman School's Eastman Ranlet Series with a program based on the number 15, chosen in celebration of the ensemble's 15th season. The quartet will open with Mozart's String Quartet No. 15 (one of six works the composer dedicated to Haydn) and end with Beethoven's 15th string quartet. Sandwiched in between will be György Kurtág's somewhat-intense, "Officium breve in memoriam Andreae Szervánsky," which has 15 movements (but still clocks in around 12 minutes). Along with touring regularly, the members of Jupiter Quartet are artists-in-residence at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and the group has won grand prizes at the Banff International String Quartet Competition and Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.

The Jupiter Quartet performs Sunday, October 1, at Kilbourn Hall, 26 Gibbs Street. 3 p.m. $19-$36. 274-3000; eastmantheatre.org; jupiterquartet.com.
