CLASSICAL | "Music for Scandals"

If you were a successful composer-performer in the 17th or 18th centuries, chances were excellent that you were part of a royal court. And if you're part of a royal court, you would inevitably be exposed to, or even involved in, some scandal. This was the case with four well-traveled guitar virtuosi and composers of the 17th century: Francesco Corbetta, Robert de Visée, Angelo Bartolotti, and Santiago de Murcia, who at one time or another plied their trade in London, Paris, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, and Sweden. Their music, and, we hope, a few spicy stories about them, is the subject of a free concert this Thursday night. Eastman-trained guitarist Warner Iverson, who is one of the 2016 Pegasus Early Music "Pegasus Rising" young artists, will be featured during this taste of Baroque musical scandal, scandale, Skandal, and escandàlo.

Pegasus Rising presents "Music for Scandals" with guitarist Warner Iverson on Thursday, May 5, at Third Presbyterian Church, 4 Meigs Street. 7 p.m. Free. pegasusearlymusic.org.
