Re: “Frankel, GOP trade barbs

The Chair of the Monroe County Republican Committee is Bill Relich, Supervisor of the Town Of Greece and former NYS Assembly Member.

If Steve were still with us he may have had more to say. The "silly season" has officially started in Monroe County for the year 2015....a local election year. Have you heard Hillary's "silly season" comments 87 months ahead of the 2016 Presidential Election?

Re: “About that Upstate Revitalization Competition...

The money given to Buffalo was not a billion as reported by the media. The second fact is that Buffalo is much larger than Rochester, Syracuse, Ithaca, Utica, and so on. A third fact is that Buffalo was a huge manufacturing city that did not make the transition to information technology and service as well as the other cities mentioned such as Rochester and Syracuse. Buffalo will be in a better position from today onto and into the next 30 years. However, it is still tough to find work anywhere in Western and Upstate NY . Rochester and the Finger Lakes have faired better than all other areas except Buffalo when it comes to tax money distributed Upstate. The challenge is getting the money from Down State back to this area. May I remind that Down State generates the most tax revenue in the entire state because of population, Wall Street and political representation. "It is what it is" Just some thoughts

Re: “Whole Foods fight

I agree that Monroe Ave. cannot handle the alleged increase in traffic in that area despite the millions of dollars spent to make that section safer. However, here is the way it works in any given town in the already wealthy areas of said towns. Prelim plans are presented; informational meetings without comment at town hall; town board introduces a referendum by motion of two board members; public hearing is scheduled; public hearing: all opposed and in favor weigh in to the town board; 50 people show up and complain; a few brave ones show up and praise the concept; town board approves the plan; plan goes in front of the planning and zoning boards. So... to increase the tax revenue base for said town.. it usually gets approved. Now if 200 or 250 people show up to the meeting and complain the board may listen. 2015 is a local election year this November. So.. if you are unhappy then vote accordingly or run for office in Brighton and get on the town board. Easier said than done but "it is what it is". Just an idea !!!

Re: “Yet another challenge for the anti-poverty folks

Today the D & C laid out the amount of money to be spent in Rochester Monroe County for the anti-poverty campaign. $250,000 was asked for and $500,000 will be received as of today's report. The money will be distributed through the United Way to areas determined by the task force.

Then the article says that the program cannot be accomplished without administrative staff and costs. Again I am very disappointed by this action. Most people on the task force are already fairly well off financially and may be volunteering their time in addition to their well paid careers in Health Care, Govt' business and education. So why are there administrative costs ? Can we find a way to get the money to the people that need it most without administrative costs ? Can we find a way to ask those in the administrative cost loop to do the work for free or for minimum wage so that 97 % percent goes to the poor ?

Re: “Them fighting Dems

No Democrats cannot stop fighting... this is why their are few elected to county legislative seats. As well, Republicans control the County of Monroe and Democrats control the City of Rochester. I am still hopeful that Lovely Warren and whomever the County Executive will be can work together to improve our area and work for the community...not the committees.

Re: “Police union, City Hall still divided over reorg

When in place and activated to the three stations proposed instead of the current two stations... the costs associated, per year, will increase about $340,000 per year. As well, I believe that front line police officers should be able to make more independent decisions on their own instead of being forced to communicate upward first ( chain of command ). Perhaps a centralized structure of control from the top down is one of the problems with our police dept.

Re: “[UPDATED] Former Police Chief James Sheppard to run for County Legislature

It may be prudent for Jim to tell us his feelings about the reorganization of the Rochester Police Dept. to a five section from the two section ( east / west ) reorganization done by the Johnson Administration ?

This pending move, by the end of March, 2015, will cost an additional $325,000 per year and add one more official police section station totaling three actual sub stations... so officers will cover more than three actual stations while working out of only three stations. ( I think but am not positive ) . Something does need to be done but is this move the " best option " for the entire Rochester Police Department and the County of Monroe ?

How about some help from the Monroe County Sheriff's Dept. ? The Sheriff's Dept. can enforce and make arrests in any part of Monroe County including the City of Rochester. However, the City Police can only enforce and make arrests in the City... not outside the City Limits. These are some of the issues that should be on the table if all of us are going to be safer and best protected by all that is paid for by all that live in Rochester-Monroe County. Partnerships are the way of the future in my opinion.
