Daily Choices: What to do on Tuesday, May 7

Theater: Check out a staging of "Les Miserables" tonight, 7:30 p.m. at the Rochester Auditorium Theatre (885 E. Main St.). Tickets start at $37.50 and the show continues through May 12. For more information, call 222-5000 or visit rbtl.org.

Music: Rock 4 Recovery will be going on tonight at Montage (50 Chestnut St., themontagemusichall.com, rochesterentertainment.frontgatetickets.com). The planned headliner Saving Abel will not be performing, but Art of Dying, Blacklite District, and local groups JJ Lang, FERG Ferguson, Michele Sestito, and Low Flying Planes will carry on this acoustic effort. Doors open at 7 p.m., tickets run $10-$22.

Art: Check out Aaron Benson's solo show of ceramic works titled, "One," today at The Firehouse Gallery at Genesee Pottery (713 Monroe Ave.). Today's hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and admission is free. The show remains on view through May 24. For more information, call 271-5183 or visit geneseearts.org.

Music: Though she’s flown a bit under the big time’s radar for the past few decades, singer-songwriter Melanie has racked up the accolades and an impressive resume. She has taken the stage at Woodstock, Carnegie Hall, and Royal Albert Hall. She’s had her material covered by artists like Cher, Dolly Parton, and Macy Gray. She’s sold more than 80 million records to date and has been awarded a Grammy and an Emmy. And in fall of 2012, Rochester’s own Blackfriars Theatre premiered a musical devoted to her life and music. And if that doesn’t get you, how about her whimsical tune “Brand New Key” — you know, “I’ve got a brand new pair of roller skates, you’ve got a brand new key…” Melanie performs tonight, 8 p.m. at Lovin’ Cup, 300 Park Point Place. $22-$25. lovincup.com.
