The Khmer Rouge took over and started murdering artists and free thinkers as well as anyone who adapted Western culture, killing a quarter of the Cambodian population. he sounds and spirit of the Cambodian rock endured, and still does today, as an important piece of its strong, if scarred, cultural identity. Skype discussion with the film’s director, John Pirozzi, will follow.
