Comic opera in three acts to a libretto by Eric Crozier, after Guy de Maupassant's short story Le rosier de Madame Husson. After being crowned May King, virtuous Albert Herring is slipped some rum and, drunk and emboldened, enjoys a night of carousing. Tenor Nathaniel McEwen plays the title role. The opera by Benjamin Britten is a satire of British small-town attitudes.
