I have a soft spot in my heart for rock bands with emo tendencies. Enter Romancer, a Canadian quartet with plenty of raw energy and swooning vocals for days. Ultimately though, it's the tight strong structures and nuanced guitar textures that give the songs their substance. This Sunday, the energetic outfit will bring its winning combination of joy and heartache to town. And with a full-length album and an EP under its collective belt, the band projects a polished, infectious sound.
Romancer will play with Silver Age, Antilock, Cessation, and Starting Anonymous on Sunday, September 23, 6:30 p.m. at Vineyard Community Space, 836 South Clinton Avenue. $5-$10 suggested donation. 342-8429. facebook.com/VineyardCommunitySpace; romancerband.com.
