FAMILY | 'Preparing for Winter'

Signs of the approaching winter in Western New York include digging leaves out of our gutters, switching to snow tires, and plastic-wrapping drafty windows. As you get ready for the harsher weather, you can take a trip through time to see how cold weather preparations would have been tackled in our region in the early 19th century. This week the Genesee Country Village & Museum will host more than a dozen demonstrations, brewery tours, and hands-on activities that explore how Victorians stayed cozy and staved off boredom with crafts, food preservation, spinning yarn, and carving. The event features both demonstrations and hands-on activities.

'Preparing for Winter' takes place at Genesee Country Village & Museum, 1410 Flint Hill Road, Mumford, on Saturday, November 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, free for members and kids 17 and under. 538-6822;
