FILM | 'The Story of The Slits' Screening Party

The revolutionary, all-girl London punk band The Slits changed rock n' roll in the 1970s, continued to pioneer in punk and dub through the 1980s, and were active again from 2005 until lead vocalist Ari Up's death in 2010. A long-awaited film about the group was released on DVD on July 6, and Record Archive gained special permission to screen it right in its Backroom Lounge. "Here to Be Heard: The Story of The Slits" explores the lives of the band members through their own words, and showcases their music as a true trailblazing legacy. Record Archive's Deb Jones will DJ punk rock music from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by the screening. Popcorn and drink specials will be available while you feast your ears on music and celebrate smashing the system with this feminist explosion.

"Here To Be Heard: The Story of The Slits" screening party will happen at the Record Archive, 33 1/3 Rockwood Street, on Tuesday, July 17, starting at 5 p.m. with the film screening at 6 p.m. Free. 244-1210; recordarchive.com.
