American contemporary artist Frank Argento brings fresh interpretations to various themes including people, pop culture and animals. Working from his home studio in upstate, New York, he creates with charcoal, and pastel on paper and oils on canvas. Creating is a form of play. “My favorite tool is the pencil, but I’m equally comfortable with all media,” says Argento. “I like to be expressive and capture the subtle gesture of the image.” Argento began his art career in the sixties while attending Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Fine Art. A multidimensional artist, working in film, television, advertising and design, Argento held an associate professorship in the Department of Visual Communications at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf/RIT. He is now Associate Professor Emeritus.
