Ms. Childress Brown will recount the occasion when Frederick Douglass, ex-slave, publisher, and outspoken advocate for emancipation, was scheduled to speak at the Penfield Presbyterian Church in December 1855. Mr. Douglass’ speech was interrupted when some trouble-makers blocked up the chimney flue smoking out the entire congregation. Mr. Douglass was used to this treatment. She will have copies of her book available for sale and autographing.
