- Elisa S. Keeler's music workshop for adults, called "Freeing the Voice," encourages physical and emotional well-being through group singing and movement exercises.
Ithaca-based soul singer and teacher Elisa S. Keeler, of the a cappella group Honey Child Soul Quintet, is hosting a workshop she calls “Freeing the Voice” at The Clover Center, 1101 Clover Street, on Wednesday, May 15.
With a focus on spirituals, gospel, soul, and world music, Keeler’s workshop for adults encourages physical and emotional well-being through group singing and movement exercises. Keeler also promotes individual vocal expression and empowerment through improvisation.
Formerly with the band Solstice, Keeler has performed with Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and collaborated with Kevin Kinsella – formerly of John Brown’s Body – in the band Food, Clothes and Shelter. Keeler recently released “Songs of the Earth: Multicultural Songs for the Circle,” which features several of the songs sung at the “Freeing the Voice” workshop.
The workshop will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The early registration fee is $25; $40 after May 10.
