Time For Tots: Wednesday, January 2, 10:15 AM. Ages 1 through 5 with a caregiver. Forty minutes of free play with toys, followed by a short story time. No registration.

Sit, Knit & Stitch: Thursday, January 3, 6:30 – 8:30 PM. Bring your own project and enjoy the company of others who enjoy needlecraft like knitting, stitching and crocheting. Beginners to experts are welcome. Bring a snack and beverage if you wish. No registration.

Pajama Story Time: Thursday, January 3, 6:30 – 7:15 PM. Stories, songs, activities and a craft will be included. A family program for all ages and pajama wear is optional. No registration.

First Friday Films: Friday, January 4, 10:00 – 11:30 AM. Join us for a film and popcorn on the first Friday of each month. All ages, no registration.

Baby Story Time: Monday, January 7, 9:30 – 10:00 AM. For children ages birth through 2 years old, with a caregiver. Stories, songs, fingerplays and play time. No registration.

Story Time with Mary Jo: Monday, January 7, 10:15 – 11:00 AM. For ages 2 through 5 with a caregiver. Stories, songs, circle games, snack, fingerplays and toys are all part of this program. No registration.

NYS Disaster Preparedness: Monday, January 7 from 4:00 – 5:00 PM. The NY Citizen Preparedness Training Program teaches residents to have the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster, how to respond accordingly and then recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions. This training course will introduce responses to a natural or man-made disaster. This class for adults includes developing a family emergency plan and stocking up on emergency supplies.

Ideas and Authors: Monday, January 7 , from 7:00 – 8:30 PM. Book discussion group for adults, on the first Monday of each month. This month we will discuss The Drop by Dennis Lehane. Books are available at the Circulation Desk one month in advance. No registration.

Story Time with Hannah: Tuesday, January 8, 10:15 – 11:00 AM. For ages 2 through 5 with a caregiver. Stories, songs, circle games, snack, fingerplays and toys in this program. No registration.

Junior Friends: Tuesday, January 8, 4:00 – 5:00PM. The Junior Friends are library volunteers ages 9-16 who meet year-round and help the library with book sales, programs, and decorations, among other fun things. We also get involved with community service activities.

Lego Club: Thursday, January 10, 6:30 – 7:30PM. Ages 5 through 12. Come build with our Legos. Registration is required.

GPL Out On the Town: Friday, January 11. GPL Out On the Town takes us to Comedy @ the Carlson for an exclusive, behind the scenes tour with Mark Ippolito, one of the founders and Director of Operations, and a live performance with writer/comedian, Chris Franjola. Chris Franjola can be heard co-hosting Heather McDonald’s successful podcast, Juicy Scoop and was also a writer and a regular performer on E!’s hit show, “Chelsea Lately”. Please check in with Library staff at the Comedy @ the Carlson bar area at 6:45PM for program ticket. Tour starts at 7PM.

Saturday Baby Story Time: Saturday, January 12, 10:30 – 11:00 AM. For children ages birth through 2 years old, with a caregiver. Stories, songs, fingerplays and play time. No registration.

Learn to Crochet: Saturday, January 12, 10:30 – 11:30 AM. This month's subject is double crochet and the project options are a dishcloth or scrubby. If you need help with something you've already started feel free to bring it with you. 18 and up. Registration is required.

Polymer Snowmen: Saturday, January 12, 2:00 – 3:00 PM. One of the best winter season projects you can create is a Polymer Snowman. Show off your snow building skills in this craft class led by Deb Coller. This event is intended for age 18 and up. All materials are provided and registration is required due to limited seating.

Winter Wonderland: Thursday, January 17, 6:30 – 7:30 PM. Join us for winter stories and crafts during this evening event! Designed for ages 2-6 with caregivers, all families are welcome. Registration is requested.

Story Time Yoga: Friday, January 18, 10:00 – 10:30 AM. For ages 1 - 5 with a caregiver. Hear stories while stretching and strengthening your body! The stories will inspire children's minds as their bodies are busy supporting them. No registration.

The Science of Breadmaking: Saturday, January 19, 11 :00 AM – 1:00 PM. Immerse yourself in the creation and science of Mankind's earliest prepared foods – Bread! Join Chef Jeffory McLean as he explores the discovery, development and refinement of the “Staff of Life.” Gain a deeper understanding of what happens when bread is created and participate in making your own loaf and sourdough starter to take home. Children’s Services Focus Group Meeting: ***PLEASE NOTE NEW DATE*** Thursday, January 24, 6:30 – 7:30 PM. If you are a Gates resident who has children who participate in Children’s Services' programs please join a focus group meeting of parents and caregivers to aid in our long range planning. Fairy Tale Friday: Friday, January 25, 10:15 – 11:00 AM. For ages 2 through 6 with a caregiver. Join us to hear versions of a favorite fairy tale, sing songs, make a craft, and have a snack. No registration.

Writing to Heal: Saturday, January 26, 1:00 – 3:00 PM. Are you dealing with life-changing issues? You are welcome in this class whether you already write or not. You’ll learn writing exercises and skills you can use for the rest of your life to know yourself better and help restore physical and emotional health. Learn about decades of amazing research on how telling your story a certain way produces positive changes in your body, restores emotional well-being, and clears the mind. Find what story you have to tell and how to tell it. This is the first of three workshops. Attend them all or choose which ones sound right for you. Seating is limited and registration is required.
