Re: “Affording the arts

The writer is absolutely correct that the most effective thing any citizen can do, besides a direct monetary contribution, is to write and talk to elected representatives. These folks are our neighbors, and they do pay attention to their clients. Try it sometime, like now!

Re: “'Birds of the West Indies' connects Bond, birds, babes

I think you are being kind in using the word "unassuming" for the screen grab pictures of background birds. I was intrigued by the portraits of actresses, especially those whose careers are long past, yet willing to appear and show that their grace can still be apparent.

Re: “MAG exhibit highlights Carl Peters and the era of WPA murals

We viewed this exhibit and found it enlightening. It was certainly a form of propaganda directed at Depression-era Rochesterians, but the composition and development was well done. Our only complaint was the grouping of murals now at Charlotte High School; the sketches showing original concepts were set at eye level, but reproductions of the completed murals were set above, and possibly even smaller than the sketches, making them hard to view. We were pleased to note that a previous article by Ms. Rafferty was referenced in the published book of the show.

Re: “Portrait of a new city

Last year's event was fun for us viewers, trying to find all the art (there is still some I haven't found) and watching the artists' different techniques. Offering sympathy for the hot weather occurring last year was universal. If there's a theme, it may be more accessible, but I still expect some mind-stretching work.

Re: “Arts and Cultural Council to close gallery and publication

A shame to see this happen. It was a quality effort.

Re: “Worlds collide on walls: Wall\Therapy 2013

I walked down part of the El Camino Trail from Irondequoit this morning. My intention was to see the art, which I did. But what really made me feel good were the three different people also wandering around who engaged me, happy to see the artists in their neighborhood.
