For the first Geneva Night Out of 2014 the Geneva Historical Society will bring radio and fashion of the 1920s back to town. The museum will feature gallery talks and displays on these topics from 5-8pm on Friday, January 3. Archivist Karen Osburn will share some of the history and ancedotes about the new national media of the 1920s. Visit the past with Old Time Radio shows. Travel briefly to a time before TV when you listen to some of the radio programs available in the 1920s. Radio was an important part of everyday life, and people were as devoted to their favorite radio shows as they are to television or streaming video shows today. Amos and Andy may have been even more popular during its run than Walking Dead or Breaking Bad are now. If you aren't familiar with radio of the 1920s stop into the Geneva Historical Society on January 3, and enjoy some of this early 20th-century entertainment. Properties Manager, Alice Askins, will take audiences down the runway of the decade that scandalized conservatives all over the western world. Women’s fashion of the 1920s is instantly recognizable. The short, straight dresses, the tight hats pulled down low, are unique in the history of Western fashion. What influenced and shaped ‘20s garb? How did it change over the decade? What does it tell us? Come and look into it with us!
