In American culture, haiku is rarely recognized as a serious genre of poetry. After all, anyone can write a three-line poem. However, every 3-line poem is not a haiku nor is every haiku a 3-line poem. By reading recent journals of English-language haiku, you will also discover the characteristics that distinguish haiku from other poetic genres. You will also have the opportunity to write some haiku and receive feedback, if desired.
