INDIE ROCK | Calicoco

Singer-songwriter Giana Caliolo went from drummer in Pony Hand to the leader of the shoegaze trio, Calicoco. Backed by bassist Matthew DeWaters and drummer Andy Baker, Caliolo uses her guitar to create melancholic, introspective self-portraits. Having celebrated five releases since 2015, including the debut full-length album "Float," Calicoco is currently embarking on an East Coast tour. The band's music confronts existential crises and reflects a sense of personal discovery in everyday life. Caliolo's cavernous mezzo-soprano voice gives way to a mix of rock, pop, blues, and folk. Taking an honest and genuine approach to life and music, Calicoco is the indie rock sunshine parting Rochester's slate gray skies.

Calicoco will perform along with Adult Mom, Gobbin Jr., and Long Neck on Friday, May 3, 9 p.m. at Bug Jar, 219 Monroe Avenue. $13-$15. Ages 21 and over. 454-2966.;
