Info session: Proposed new charter school for boys in Rochester

When: Thu., Aug. 22, 5:45 p.m. 2013
Phone: 396-2028
Rochester employers report that hundreds of good paying jobs go unfilled each year, because city youth don’t have the basic academic and work readiness skills needed. Vertus Charter School will prepare students for success in careers and in their communities utilizing four main components: Career preparation: Students will earn credentials to get mid-level skill jobs, in addition to a high school diploma. Personalized, year-round, on-line academic curriculum: Each student will have an individual learning plan tailored to his ability and interests. Course credit will be earned year-round in computer labs led by master teachers. Strong relationships: All students will work in small learning teams supported by caring mentors. Character education: Daily seminars will be designed to prepare students for the workplace and for life. A group of Rochester citizens and two nationally known educators who plan to move to Rochester, Perry White and Leigh McGuigan, will submit an application for a Charter to the NY State Education Department in September 2013 for a school to open in August 2014. They seek input from all members of the Rochester community on their proposed school and the needs of the community.
