IRISH PUNK | The Mahones

Irish punk rockers The Mahones are currently riding the peak of their career, headlining festivals around the globe and winning a few awards over the last few years. The longevity may be unexpected, as frontman Finny McConnell originally started the band to perform for one night during St. Patrick's Day in 1990. After the band churned out tunes like "Paint the Town Red," and "Shakespeare Road" (the latter of which uses fans singing the song for the music video), we should be happy the band didn't die after one night. The group's high energy shows will have you stomping and dancing, even if you didn't drink a bit too much Jameson beforehand.

The Mahones play Friday, August 1, at Abilene Bar and Lounge, 153 Liberty Pole Way. 10 p.m. $10. Abilenebarandlounge.com; themahones.co.
