JAZZ | The Hot Sardines

She was a travel writer educated at the London School of Economics and he was a New York actor. But when Elizabeth Bougerol met Evan Palazzo at a jam session in 2007, they bonded over their love of Fats Waller. Turns out Bougerol could sing like a sultry 1940's diva and Palazzo could lead a band that swings like there's no tomorrow. Together they formed The Hot Sardines, with a combination of great vocals, honky-tonk piano, tight brass arrangements and tap dance percussion. Over the last several years the group has wowed audiences at the Newport Jazz Festival, the Montreal Jazz Festival, and concert halls here and abroad.

The Hot Sardines will play with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (conducted by Jeff Tyzik) on Friday, March 24, and Saturday, March 25, at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre, 60 Gibbs Street. 8 p.m. both nights. $40-$104. 454-2100;;
