KIDS | Superheroes Weekend, Imagination Destination

It's a great time for superheroes. Marvel's "Black Panther," which opened in February, was a massive hit — not to mention an energetic, major cultural celebration for its African and African-American representation on screen — and April will bring the biggest superhero movie yet, "Avengers: Infinity War" (seriously, there's at least 30 characters lined up). Kids can get in on the action this weekend at The Strong Museum of Play's Superheroes Weekend, with character meet-and-greets with Spider-Man, Captain America, and Princess Presto of "Super Why!" fame. Also all weekend, members of the Superhero Alliance of Western New York will bring more characters to life, and there will be some hero-related activities going on. The Superheroes Weekend takes place Saturday, March 24, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (featuring Spider-Man), and on Sunday, March 25, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (featuring Captain America). All activities included with museum's admission fees.

And while the family is there, check out the museum's new permanent exhibit, "Imagination Destination." The exhibit prompts kids to role-play in several physical spaces, like commanding a futuristic spaceship; conducting a search-and-rescue mission from a helicopter; performing a Broadway show; or crawling through giant grass to see the world of bugs.

The Strong Museum of Play is located at 1 Manhattan Square Drive, and is open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Admissions is $15 for ages 2 and older, and free for members and kids under 2. 263-2700; museumofplay.org.
