I think Dr. Kress used the Finance degree scenario intentionally - because she has a degree in Finance. I think to say she is discouraging students from getting a degree is a stretch. She is addressing the role of the community college to train students for the workforce that is needed and lacking! I too have a Finance degree and I'm not offended by her comment - I get it! Businesses are not hiring a DEGREE - they need trained workforce with the appropriate skill set. Dr. Kress is getting things done so please don't minimize her work or the article's intent by parsing her words and concentrating on that tidbit - get it together!
