Re: “Does Rochester really need Uber?

"In Rochester, though, the push for ride sharing doesn't seem to be about the quality of the city's taxi service. It's about the jobs, many politicians say, and about providing transportation alternatives, particularly for millennials. Young people travel to other cities, use Uber or another ride-sharing service, and then wonder why they can't have it here." This sums up Rochester's need for Uber and other ride sharing services.

Our area is home to several top-tier colleges and universities. Attracting young people to the Rochester-metro area and keeping them here is key to sustainable growth in the region. Part of the attraction of cities like New York and San Francisco is that they are very millennial friendly, progressive ideas and services have the ability to catch on and take off. All we're doing by holding off Uber's [inevitable] arrival into our city is stifling the growth of downtown.
