MCC faculty take concerns with Kress to Board of Trustees

About 100 members of Monroe Community College's faculty gathered at a press conference today to rebut some of President Anne Kress' public responses to their vote of no confidence.  Contrary to what Kress said last week concerning the vote, the issues raised in the vote were not new developments, nor were they just about the current contract negotiations, said

  • MCC faculty met before taking their concerns about President Anne Kress' leadership to the Board of Trustees.
Bethany Gizzi, president of the MCC Faculty Association. They have been brewing for years, she said.

In a 2004 employee satisfaction survey, 91 percent of the staff who responded said they would recommend MCC to others as a "good place to work." The college conducts the survey annually and only 40 percent of the employees gave that response in 2018, Gizzi said.

Faculty leaders insist that the no confidence vote is not negatively impacting students.  Faculty members are answering students questions about the issue but are not encouraging them to participate in the controversy.

The faculty union, which was headed into the Board of Trustees regularly-scheduled meeting after today's press conference, wants the Board to conduct a transparent evaluation of Kress and her senior administrative staff.

If the Board doesn't act on the faculty's concerns, their next move will be a vote of no confidence in the Board members, faculty leaders say.

The college's union member faculty cannot go on strike according to New York State law.
