METALCORE | The Devil Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada rode into the world in the mid-2000's on a wave of metalcore, post-hardcore, and pop-punk bands that will forever be linked in my mind with the blazing, July sun and asphalt parking lots of Warped Tour. So many of those acts — Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Attack Attack, A Day to Remember — ended up on the groan-worthy (but occasionally awesome) "Punk Goes..." series. A decade later, quite a few of those scene bands are still around, but The Devil Wears Prada stands out for a simple reason: as the band got older, they let their music mature. The throat-shredding screams, epic scope, and heavy breakdowns are still there, but there's a seriousness both in tone and theme that has been building up over the last five years. The band's sixth album, last year's "Transit Blues," proves it; it's an intriguing album exploring darkness in displacement, and it shows The Devil Wears Prada still has untapped potential.

The Devil Wears Prada plays Thursday, April 6, at Harmony House, 58 East Main Street, Webster. 6:30 p.m. $20. ticketfly.com; tdwpband.com.
